YOU ARE NEVER TOO OLD TO GET FIT AND BE HEALTHY!!!

I want to tell you about Joyce - an extraordinary woman who at the age of 68 decided that she was not feeling very well and was overweight by about 40 lbs. She was very sluggish and felt she needed some guidance as to what to eat and drink and wanted to learn how to incorporate exercise into her life.

Well...Joyce read about our Chi Vitality Bootcamp and decided to join. Here is her story...

"Before I started I was not pleased with myself and realized I needed to make some changes, so when I read about the Bootcamp I was thinking that this is what I need to do.

I signed up and got started, it wasn't easy and I didn't know if I could make it but with encouragement , persistence and the phrase "Don't give up-you can do it" I continued.

I have met my goals by learning how to eat healthier and with exercising have better flexibility and stamina with my body.

I have more confidence within myself and understand what it means to be healthy.

I continue to work out 3 times a week, my 68 year old body feels much better and my reward has been feeling good about myself and the bonus of losing weight. "I did it!"

I owe my successful journey to Ady and Malin and wish them continued success with their Bootcamp."

Joyce

The biggest change in Joyce's diet was to control her blood sugar levels by eating a more wholesome diet, reducing coffee, margarine, microwaved processed foods and looking at better food combining. We incorporated three classes per week with cardio, pilates and yoga.

After the first month I remember Joyce coming in for her follow-up and I asked her how she felt and she couldn't believe her energy! I weighed and measured her and she had lost 17 lbs and 14 inches! She almost fell off the chair. Her blood pressure had also changed from 130/85 to 110/80.

Joyce completed the three month Bootcamp and her weight changed from 172 to 143lbs. Her total inches lost was 28.

I met up with Joyce this week to see how she was doing and I couldn't believe how incredible she looked and she was like a little spring chicken, radiant and full of vitality. She finished the Bootcamp on the 15th of July and has continued on her own exercising and working on her diet. I decided to weigh and measure her and 6 months of hard work has paid off because she now weighs 133 and has lost 37.5 inches in total. Well done Joyce-we are so proud of you-keep up the fantastic work!

The next Chi Vitality Bootcamp starts in January and spaces are limited so please call to book your space-(great idea for Christmas presents!)
Take care

Detoxification - You need to do this....

Some food for thought.. the toxic world we live in (to name a few)

  • over 350 different pesticides are used on the food we eat
  • there are at least 300 known harmful substances found in our blood samples
  • 5000 chemical ingredients in make-up alone
  • prescription medicines are showing up in our drinking water
  • nearly 80000 new synthetic chemicals have been released into our environment

I feel so strongly that we all need to do this - fall is coming (what ever happened to summer?) and it really is a great time to cleanse your body - you service your car don't you? If you have been eating right, taking supplements and exercising but still not getting the results you want - you need to detoxify!

If you have not been doing any of the above then you definitely need to detoxify!

The older we get the more toxins we accumulate and we need to clear out this unhealthy build-up. Think about how foggy your brain gets and we blame this on old age. Well it is toxic overload!

The goal of detoxifying is to leave you with a body that is clean, healthy and strong. That way your body can more easily absorb proper nutrients, it can fight possible pathogens because your digestive system will be firing up properly and you will have greater energy, better skin, bright eyes and you will have cells that are efficient and HAPPY!

There are many cleanses available over the counter - some good, some not so good and I have been doing my research and I feel that we are all individuals and one cleanse that is right for one person may not be right for another. I am presenting a seminar on Cleansing on September 15th 7-9pm at my Clinic and you are invited to attend. Space is limited and it will be on a first come first serve. You must book and pay for your place by 8th of September.

The Chi Vitality Bootcamp starts 8th September and it is the best all round program that is out there and we have had tremendous success with it and it is FUN! Call the clinic 324-7037 to register or Malin 340-2519

Fall Pilates classes also start the second week of September and NEW to the Galatea Method is an Infrared Sauna which is a brilliant way of getting chemical toxins out of the body. Come on, lets get back to better health! I know it has been a terrible summer and everyone is moody and depressed, well get off your backside and start looking after yourself because nobody is going to do it for you. Believe me I know!!!

Cheers to your better health

Nobody knows what to eat anymore!

I have been overwhelmed by the number of questions from people in regards to which foods are healthy and which foods are not. The trouble is that the media and food distributors highlight on one component of a particular food that is good for you and you see it appear in everything (a bit like adding vitamins to a very popular pop) to make you drink it all the more, even though it is very bad for you. But they now say it has added vitamins so it must be good for you! Did you know that they (they being the scientists) placed a tub of margarine in the desert for a week with the lid open and when they returned a week later, nothing, not one bug or animal had touched it ... it was still intact. They did another experiment where they left rats to live in a room full of lots of different foods including margarine and when they returned, the only thing the rats did not eat was that margarine! Yet we happily spread it on our toast because it now has added omega 3's!!!
Think about probiotics ... there was a day only recently when nobody had even heard of the word probiotic and do you really know what that is, apart from the fact that it makes you do the happy bowel dance? They (yes, them again) have been happily adding these so called probiotics (which by the way, is healthy gut bacteria that we need to keep our digestive and immune system happy) to our foods. Every food from cereal and bread to yogurt (delicious sugary yogurt, ring any bells?). This is not the best way to get this all important bacteria into our gut. Which by the way, is depleted by prescription drugs, oral contraceptives and of course, antibiotics.
I know it is a confusing and fast paced time for us all. Stress is at its ultimate high and generally people are not feeling very well. I am noticing such a trend in the number of people of all ages dealing with sever nutritional imbalances that they are really starting to take affect and people really do not know what to do. So, I want to share with you my general strategy for keeping healthy and feeling great!
In a society where everything seems to be super sized, the trend is to do everything to excess from our intake of sugar, to our large double this and double that. We need to take on a new mind set and think of our bodies as machines that need good quality fuel in moderation! We need to begin to get back to basics with our foods. When our children look in the cupboards for food, all they see is food that comes in a box. What happened to all the home cooking and Sunday night family dinners? Families aren't even eating together any more and like I said, our children think that there is no food in the house because they don't know how to make anything apart from some chemical creation that comes in a box and goes in the microwave for 2 minutes! I am seeing so many young people at my clinic who are experiencing symptoms of candidiasis, liver problems, adrenal fatigue, under active thyroids and obesity. What have we created?
Moderation is the key and shopping locally. Remember I told you about the hardest working people around, our local farmers.. use them .. for they have all the goodies to make us well. Get back into the kitchen with your kids and cook together. The markets are full of wonderfully fresh fruits and vegetables and local meat products. Get out the recipe books and have some fun together. Don't you think our children and our future children deserve to be healthy?
It is great to start your day with 1/2 fresh lemon and water to kick start the liver and gallbladder and a good quality probiotic is a must. Try foods that are more alkalizing like fruits and vegetables and choose alternate protein sources such as nuts and seeds, brown rice and beans. I f you have trouble digesting certain foods, a good quality digestive enzyme would help and of course lots of water. Walking and fresh are, sunshine (if we ever get any!), oh and did I mention lots of love!!!
Remember that you only get one body, and if you abuse it now, it will not go the distance.
In future posts I will add the articles that I write for the CAPS paper in Lindsay, as well as thoughts on nutrition and recipes to help you get started on your path to better nutrition and better health.
